The international scientific seminar «Transcendental Turn in Contemporary Philosophy: Metaphysics, Theory of Experience or Theory of Consciousness» will be held at the Higher School of Economics (HSE), Moscow on April 22-23, 2016

International scientific workshop on transcendentalism in 2016 is conceived as a trial of a scientific project on transcendental philosophy in Russia. It is timed to birthday of I. Kant (born on April 22, 1724), the founder of transcendental philosophy.

The workshop will take place at the HSE Faculty of Humanities (57/1 Trifonovskaya street).

International scientific workshop on transcendentalism in 2016 is conceived as a trial of a scientific project on transcendental philosophy in Russia. It is timed to birthday of I. Kant (born on April 22, 1724), the founder of transcendental philosophy.

Panel discussion On the possibility of contemporary transcendental philosophyheld duringVII Russian Philosophical Congress on October 9, 2015 (video of the discussion:https://youtu.be/PKI3HDntpZc) precedes the suggested seminar. The panel discussion allowed to unite those who consider themselves to be adheres of transcendentalism, although the meaning of the term is very broad. In future it is planned to carry out a full-fledged international conference on the basis of the seminar and establish a regular Russian scientific event dedicated to transcendentalism.

The aim of the seminar is to discuss contemporary problems of transcendental philosophy in its main three theoretical forms that are Kantianism in its Analityc (Anglo-Saxon) traditions, Kantianism / Neokantianism in its continental version, and transcendental phenomenology. Most prominent Russian scholars are invited to participate in the event. The list includes L.A.Kalinnikov, V.I Molchanov, A.N. Kruglov, D.N. Raseev, V.N. Belov, N.A. Dmitrieva, and others. It is also planned to invite international scholars of this tradition like Robert Howell, (USA), Robert Hanna (USA), M. Soboleva (Austria), Alexander Schnell (France), etc.

  • Kant’s transcendentalism and its development in contemporary analytic Anglo-Saxon tradition
  • Kant’s transcendentalism and its development in contemporary philosophical tradition, in phenomenology in particular
  • Kant’s transcendentalism and its development in contemporary Russian philosophical tradition
  • Kant and Husserl: two variants of modern/contemporary transcendentalism

 

Program of the seminar:

22 April (Friday): two sessions (morning and afternoon) & videoconference.

23 April (Saturday): two sessions (morning and afternoon).

* Each session will be a thematic and presupposes 1-2 keynote speakers (single paper (presentation) or 1-2 co-presentations (papers)) and some small talks. Number of talks is limited.
